Valle de Bravo

Valle de Bravo is a municipality in México State, Mexico, located on the shore of Lake Avándaro, approximately 100 km (60 miles) West of Mexico City.
It takes about 2 hours to drive from Mexico City to Valle de Bravo, the lake is flooded farm land, with a dam that was built to produce electricity for the Mexico City. The old town was flooded many years ago. It's a beautiful place usually called the "The Mexican Switzerland".
It is mainly a weekend resting place for very affluent people that live in Mexico City and a world class paragliding mecca.
The colonial archiecture of the town is very walkable, with a nice central plaza, an arts & crafts and food markets, gourmet natural food stores, art galleries and upscale craft shops. Many shops are closed during the week. Most streets are lined with cobble stone and can become very crowded and congested with both cars and people during the warmer months
The lake and large pine forests complete with extensive dirt paths make the area popular for outdoor activities that tend to have a focus here, including biking, hang-gliding, sailing, water-skiing, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and recreational vehicles (ATVs and dirt bikes). It is very beautiful.
In terms of climate, one can expect a day time temperature in the 80's from March-June, at night dropping to the low 60's. The rainy season lasts from August until the end of November, and temperatures can be rather unpredictable.
Many vacationers coming from Mexico City looking to avoid the traffic prefer to travel at night often arriving late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Many find "Tacos de Valle" a great stop for an excellent late night snack.
The locals are rather friendly and helpful since their economy and income are dependent on tourism. Many work as maids, nannies, and maintenance workers for those vacationing in their tiny village.
