Valley Ranch in Irving, Texas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Valley Ranch is a major neighborhood in the Dallas, Texas suburb of Irving.
The name comes from the fact that it was a former working ranch, and is located (for the most part) below a large ridge (thus resembling a valley). The area was part of the Trinity River floodplain; however, an extensive levee system on its eastern side separated river from land, thus making it desirable for development (it is nearly all developed). In order to maintain flood control (and provide recreational opportunities for its residents) Valley Ranch has many winding canals with walkways throughout.
Valley Ranch hosts the practice facilities of the Dallas Cowboys football team, and for a time also hosted the practice facilities of the Dallas Stars hockey team.
[edit] School Districts
MacArthur Boulevard (the major north-south thoroughfare through Valley Ranch) serves as the rough dividing line between the two school districts serving the area: Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (east side) and Coppell Independent School District (west side). Despite being located in Irving, it is not served by the Irving Independent School District.
