Visonair
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Visonair is an Internet TV network created by Dreamocean Interactive. Its aim was to become the first Open Access or Public Access Internet TV based network offering live or pre-recorded streaming at cheap prices. Development for all of the software and systems used within Visonair started in 2005 after a long design process. The streams went live in December 2005 for testing.

[edit] Streams
Visonair provides streams in more than one format as follows:
- Distributed using SHOUTcast in NSV (video is in VP6, the audio is AAC).
- Distributed using Icecast in Ogg (video is in Theora, the audio is Vorbis) thanks to Xiph.org.
The audio is currently recorded and encoded at 22Khz, the video is 320x240 pixels at 15 frames/second.
[edit] Broadcasting
Anyone can register and use the Visonair software. Once registered you can bid on time slots within the schedule which are auctioned off. Once won, you can choose to upload your programme, or broadcast it live. Currently the providers are allowing anyone to broadcast for free.
[edit] Live Broadcasting
One of the most impressive features is being able to broadcast live. To do this, the software provides a package that allows you to control and display many different inputs (like webcams, video capture cards, microphones, flash movies, AVI, MPEG videos etc). Programmes are streamed live to a special server, which then re-broadcasts the stream seamlessly. Because of the speed of some Internet connections (Broadband & ADSL in some countries has a very slow uploading speed) the video quality for Live events is lower but still very good.
