Washington Middle School (Seattle, Washington)

Washington Middle School is an ethnically diverse school located in the central district of Seattle.
WMS is a perennial contender in local athletic, musical, and academic competitions.
It is the only middle school in Seattle with APP (or Accelerated Progress Program). It is fed into by Lowell Elementary and the APP kids usually go to Garfield High School.
The Washington Middle School's music department has been mentioned in the Seattle Times for its ensemble called "Knatts Brats," and the Senior Jazz Band has won numerous awards at National Level.
The orchestra, directed by Elizabeth Fortune, is widely considered one of the best middle school orchestras in Seattle and has won awards in several competitions, including the Heritage Music Festival in places like Anaheim, California, Dallas, Texas, and the Mt. Hood Orchestra Festival in Gresham, Oregon.
Washington Middle School's basketball team has won three championships in a row.
Washington also has renowned Math Olympiads and Math Counts teams.
The current principal is Jon Halfaker.
