WCAT-FM is Red 102.3, a 3,000 watt country music radio station in Carlisle, Pennsylvania serving Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

[edit] History of the 102.3 Frequency

The station started as WHYL-FM airing a simulcast of WHYL, an AM station housed in the same building.

On December 31, 1979, the call sign changed to WZUE and was branded as "Zoo 102". The WZUE calls were short-lived, as the call sign reverted back to WHYL-FM on October 14, 1981, branded as "Country 102."

On April 26, 2002, the call sign was changed to WRKZ-FM (which is now a station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). It began as a simulcast of WCAT-FM, which belonged to a different frequency in the same market (106.7), and branded itself as "Cat Country 106.7" (it is currently WMHX [1]). After a brief period, WRKZ-FM flipped formats to all-80s and re-branded itself as "Z102.3."

Another flip happened shortly thereafter when WCAT-FM, on 106.7, changed it's call sign to WCPP and changed its format to Rhythmic Adult Contemporary. The WCAT-FM call sign was then given to 102.3, the format changed to country, and it became the current "Red 102.3."
