Weatherhead School of Management

The Weatherhead School of Management is the business school of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. It is located in the Peter B. Lewis Building, named after the Cleveland philanthropist who donated over $60 million dollars for its construction. The building is a creation of Frank Gehry.

The Weatherhead School of Management Undergraduate Program [1] was ranked 25th among U.S. undergraduate business programs by U.S. News & World Report in September 2004.

In 2007, the Financial Times ranked the Master of Business Administration program 82nd in the world, down from 63rd in the previous year and 49th in 2005.[2]

Faculty at the Weatherhead school advise doctoral students in accounting, management, operations research, and organizational behavior. (Technically, degrees are conferred by the School of Graduate Studies at Case Western Reserve.)
[edit] May 2003 hostage crisis
On May 9, 2003, Biswanath Halder, an alumnus of the school, went on a shooting spree, killing one student and wounding a professor in the business school. Halder held more than 100 people hostage for more than 6 hours, until he was apprehended by a SWAT team. [3] [4] Dateline NBC aired a report on this shooting in 2006. [5]

Prominent faculty include David Cooperrider and David A. Kolb. Professor Richard E. Boyatzis is an internationally renowned expert on organizational behavior. He is widely known for his creation of the competency approach, for Competency and Emotional Intelligence. His landmark research paved the way for the use of behavioral competencies by employers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other countries.
Michael McCaskey, chairman of the board of the Chicago Bears, is an alum.
