Westbury plc was a British housebuilding company based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Prior to its acquisition by Persimmon plc it was listed on the London Stock Exchange as a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
Westbury operated in the United Kingdom only. It owned nine regionally-based housebuilding companies and a manufacturing plant. Its main business was private housing but it was also involved in the construction of social housing. Its turnover for the year (2005) was £893.0 million. Profits were £120.0 million before tax and £81.9 million after tax.
In November 2005 Westbury received a £643 million takeover approach from Persimmon plc, a larger British housebuilding company, which was accepted by the shareholders. [1]
