Westerlund 2
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WR20a is a binary star system located 20,000 light-years from the earth towards the southern constellation Carina. Each star in the system has eighty times the mass of our sun. It is believed that the stars in Westerlund 2 are more typical of the stars that populated the early universe. It was discovered by a team led by Krzysztof Stanek of Harvard University using the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. These twin stars have approximately 80 solar masses each.
