Whitby, a large north-eastern harbourside suburb of Porirua City, New Zealand, was comprehensively planned in the 1960s (when still in Hutt County) and is now substantially developed.
Suburb, neighbourhood, and street names have a nautical theme centred on Pacific explorer James Cook.
Since 2004 Whitby has hosted a new private secondary school, Whitby Independent College. Full management of the school was taken over in 2006 by Samuel Marsden Collegiate School.
