"Why Didn't You Call Me" was the fourth and final single release from singer Macy Gray's first studio album On How Life Is, released in 2000.
In the UK, "Why Didn't You Call Me" became Gray's third consecutive top forty hit in the UK Singles Chart. "Why Didn't You Call Me" also peaked at number twenty-five on the Adult Top 40 in the U.S. as well as number twenty-nine on the Top 40 mainstream chart. "Why Didn't You Call Me" is also one of Gray's biggest U.S. chart hits, second behind "I Try", peaking at number one-hundred and seven there (number seven on the Bubbling under chart).
"Why Didn't You Call Me" was released on two CD formats in the UK. The CD single contained remixes of "Why Didn't You Call Me" and "I've Committed Murder", along with a live recording of "I Can't Wait to Meetchu".
