Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Assessment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject Schools! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's School articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

If you have just rated an article, please leave a short summary here to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the article.

Ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WPSchools}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories.

[edit] Frequently asked questions

How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Schools WikiProject is free to add—or change—the rating of an article.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

[edit] Instructions

An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WPSchools}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WPSchools
|class=
|importance=
|needs-infobox=yes
}}

needs-infobox: If the article already has an infobox, remove this line.

[edit] Quality scale

School articles are graded for quality according to the Wikipedia 1.0 Assessment Scale. If you would like to help grade them, please visit Assessment requests.

Featured article FA

Good article GA

???

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article:

If left blank, the article will default as Category:Unassessed school articles.

Note: You should not assign any article GA or FA grades arbitrarily. These grades must pass through official Wikipedia channels and undergo a Peer Review process.

[edit] Importance scale

School articles are rated on this importance scale. Importance must be regarded as a relative term. If importance values are applied within this project, these only reflect the perceived importance to this project and to the work groups the School falls under. An article judged to be "Top-Class" in one context may be only "Mid-Class" in another project. The criteria used for rating article priority are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the topic is. Rather, they attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it).

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new quality rating for it, please feel free to list it below. NOTE: This is only to rate the article on quality - you may or may not get feedback on the article. If you assess an article, please strike it off using <s>Strike-through text</s> so that other editors will not waste time going there too. Thanks!

[edit] April 1-2

  • Zahm Hall (University of Notre Dame) (Start/Mid) A good start. Needs some editing, a picture. Good list of famous "alumni." SkipperClipper 03:14, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Zamorano (Stub/Low) Contains almost no information, and is need of extensive expansion.SkipperClipper 03:24, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Zane Trace High School (Stub/Low) Three sentence description, one external link, and one notable alumni. Definitely needs expansion.SkipperClipper 03:31, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Xaverian College (Start/Low) Needs some work to improve its class, such as an infobox, pictures, and references. It does provide some relevant information about the school. SkipperClipper 03:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Xavier College Preparatory (Start/Low) Needs references for data presented, no picture. Has potential for more detailed sections if information is added. SkipperClipper 03:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Xavier High School (New York City) (Start / Low) A fair amount of information, and discussion regarding WP:NOR seems warranted. SkipperClipper 04:09, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
    • This article doesn't have enough referenced material for a B class. As Pheonix 2 told me when I started here, the start and GA classes are really wide where the Stub and B classes are small. Adam McCormick 04:46, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Gabriel Richard High School (Start/Low) A good start. The History section could add more information, but the list of references provides the reader with solid, verifiable information.SkipperClipper 04:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Weyfield Primary School (Stub / Low) Contains an info box and references, but needs a lot more general content and a picture would also be beneficial. Camaron1 | Chris 15:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Worplesdon Primary School (Stub / Low) This article currently contains very little information about the school beyond the basics. To improve more content with structure is needed. Camaron1 | Chris 15:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Conifer High School (Start/Mid) Numerous broken links, but a fair amount of relevant information broekn into acceptable categories. Still needs improvement.SkipperClipper 16:22, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Mayfield School (Portsmouth) (Start / Mid) A good start for an article, contains a lot of information abouts its history. Needs an info-box, more structure and more information about the school in the present. Camaron1 | Chris 19:46, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Priory School (Portsmouth) (Start / Low) This article needs to be expanded to contain more topics, such as current school policies, and be better structured with use of section headings. An infobox and picture would also be good additions. Camaron1 | Chris 20:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
  • The Portsmouth Grammar School (Start / High) A strong and well structured article. However, lack of references and problems with NPOV need to be resolved for the article to get a higher rating. Also, some pictures and expansion of less detailed sections would be good. Camaron1 | Chris 20:19, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
    • I've changed this school to mid-importance as it's one of the less well-known independent schools and not known internationally like some of the other UK public schools which are currently rated as high importance (eg, the schools included in Encarta). Dahliarose 09:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
      • I agree that the lack of international knowledge would prevent this school getting "Top" importance. Though, I think its alumni and history are grounds to push it up to "High" importance, that school is more important than most schools which I have rated as "Mid". However, for now I will leave it as it is. Camaron1 | Chris 10:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
        • I think the importance ratings have to be relative. For UK schools, only Eton and Harrow are currently considered as of top importance. The high importance UK schools are ones which are included in Encarta (mostly the major public (ie fee-paying) schools) and some very ancient schools. Presumably too there needs to be some balance so that some schools from all countries are assessed as being of top and high importance so that UK and US schools don't dominate the lists. I imagine some rejigging of importance ratings will be required as the assessments proceed. Dahliarose 11:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
          • I agree that all schools in Encarta should be of "High" or "Top" importance, though as mentioned before, inclusion in other encyclopedias should not dictate an articles importance. Camaron1 | Chris 13:46, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
            • After no further reply and a more detailed look at the article, I am reverting the articles importance back to "high". Reasons in a nutshell: Long history, big alumni, school uniqueness are all factors which give it a "high" importance, though lack of mention in other encyclopedias denies it "Top" importance. Camaron1 | Chris 10:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Claymont Stone School (Stub / High) Its not my country, but I would suggest that IF the claims are correct then this could/should be a very important school in US history. So tell me ... is this a low stub or high? Victuallers 16:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Portsmouth High School (Southsea) (Stub / Low) Gives a good introduction to readers, though lacks structure and detail. More content and references, as well as an infobox, are needed to improve this article. Camaron1 | Chris 17:50, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • St John's College (Portsmouth) (Stub / Mid) Needs much more content, an infobox and possibly a picture. Issues with lack of references also needs to be resolved. Camaron1 | Chris 18:01, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Merewether High School (Start / Low) A good article with plenty of encyclopedic content, it also has an infobox and some pictures. However, this article has some weaknesses with original research issues and a lack of content in some sections such as "student body". Camaron1 | Chris 19:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Killarney Secondary School (Start / Low) Needs some expansion and work on WP:NPOV. Mostly unreferenced but a good start. Adam McCormick 20:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Killigrew Junior School (Stub / Low) Very minimal and unreferenced information. Doesn't really justify an article. Adam McCormick 20:37, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Kilmarnock Academy (Stub / Mid) Two Nobel Laureates (appearantly a fairly unique thing) warrants a Mid importance rating. This article is just a list of alumni and very basic information. Needs expansion with referenced information and pictures. Adam McCormick 20:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Kimbolton School (Start / Low) Some good information on the school and its founding. Needs to be referenced inline and expanded. Pictures and an infobox would be a good start. Adam McCormick 20:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Kincoppal-Rose Bay, School of the Sacred Heart, Sydney (Stub / Low) Needs significant referencing and expansion. Could aslo use quite a bit of cleanup. Adam McCormick 21:04, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Kincumber High School (Stub / Low) Some basic location and population information and all unreferenced. Needs significant expansion to justify an article. Adam McCormick 21:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Charles I School (Start / Low) Needs significant expansion, referencing, and general reorganization. Could also use pictures and an infobox. Adam McCormick 21:30, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Ecgbert School (Start / Low) Some very basic information. Could stand to be expanded, referenced, wikified, and researched. Pictures and infoboxes would also be a plus. Adam McCormick 21:38, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edmunds Yate (Stub / low) Just some basic founding and location information. Hardly justifies an article. No references. Adam McCormick 21:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI Camp Hill (Start / Low) Could use some reorganization/expansion with referenced information and pictures. Could also use an infobox. Adam McCormick 21:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI College, Nuneaton (Start / low) Some good information, may be referenced but should be done inline. Needs significant expansion. Adam McCormick 22:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI College, Stourbridge (Start / Low) One reference, needs a lot of expansion. Could use pictures, demographic info, course offerings, and quite a bit else. Adam McCormick 22:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] April 3-4

  • King Edward VI Grammar School (Chelmsford) (Start / low) Well written and clean, but no references. Would be a B if facts were cited and a few pictures were added. Adam McCormick 01:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI Grammar School, Louth (Start / Low) Some good information, but all unreferenced. Needs cleanup and expansion. Adam McCormick 04:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • The Leys School (Start/High) Well written but not always neutral. The impressive alumni and a famous literary link put this in the top notability rating. This is the setting for "Goodbye Mr Chips". May be Top ^Victuallers 08:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Aldworth Science College (Stub / Low) Contains a bit of history but not much more. Needs an infobox and more information about the school nowadays. Camaron1 | Chris 10:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Amery Hill School (Stub / Low) Contains some encyclopedic content about the school. Needs to be expanded to go into further detail with an infobox and more structure. Lack of references and NPOV issues also need to be resolved. Camaron1 | Chris 10:39, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Bay House (Stub / Low) This article needs a large cleanup, currently it reads like an essay. More references, an infobox and more structure would also help improve the article. Camaron1 | Chris 10:47, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Bellemoor School (Stub / Low) This article needs a large cleanup as much of its sections have NPOV and accuracy issues. This article also needs an infobox, better structure and more content. Camaron1 | Chris 11:14, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Ola High School (Start / Low) This is just a collection of lists, not an article. Needs significant expansion and recerencing. Lists should be condensed into paragraphs or tables, and pictures should be added. Adam McCormick 19:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI School Stratford-upon-Avon (Start / Low) A few unreferenced and disputed paragraphs. Needs referencing, and expansion with pictures, and an infobox. Adam McCormick 05:52, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VI School, Southampton (Start / Low) Some information on the school but not of particularly global interest. No references, pictures, or an infobox. Adam McCormick 05:58, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • King Edward VII School (King's Lynn) (Stub / Low) Just location info and a list of classrooms, hardly an article. Adam McCormick 06:03, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Bridgemary Community School (Stub / Low) Currently contains a limited amount of encyclopedic information with some references. This could become a great article if it was expanded to cover more topics and contained an infobox and some pictures. Camaron1 | Chris 13:35, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Brockenhurst College (Start / Mid) A well structured encyclopedic article with an infobox and some pictures, but it clearly has areas that could be improved. Individual statements need to be cited into a references section in the Wikipedia house style. Also, some sections need to be expanded such as the "Ofsted Report" section. Camaron1 | Chris 13:47, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Brune Park Community College (Stub / Low) Contains some information about the schools history, needs to be expanded to cover more topics such as school policies and campus. An infobox and some pictures would also be good additions to the article. Camaron1 | Chris 14:06, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Ditcham Park School (Stub / Low) Gives some basic information about the school. To improve it needs to go into much more detail and include an infobox and more structure. Camaron1 | Chris 14:44, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Academy of Richmond County (stub /high) I have assessed this article for the Schools Project, the school is one of/the oldest is the state. Needs a lot more work. It is only a few sentences about a school dated in the 1780s Victuallers 16:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Glynn Academy (start /high) I have assessed this article for the Schools Project, the school is one of the oldest is the state (1780s). A better start than the oldest. This is the second oldest in the state but no reference for this claim. Some work required to add refs and more topics to make this a B. However they have permission to add more history so ... Victuallers 16:52, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Benjamin Elijah Mays High School (stub /low) lots os schools like this. A few paragraphs. Needs more. Victuallers 17:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Westminster Schools of Augusta (stub /low) lots os schools like this. A few paragraphs. Needs more. Victuallers 17:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Waycross High School (start /mid) more detail required, refs and pics useful mid as impressive alumni (although only two). Victuallers 17:24, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • South Dakota School for the Deaf (stub /low) more detail required, refs and pics useful Victuallers 17:38, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Clarke School for the Deaf (stub /mid) Quite Important school. 1867. Early for Deaf school. Needs some references and more length/ topics. A detailed history would be interesting. May be high if reference cannot be found. Victuallers 17:48, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] April 5-7

  • Humboldt High School (Iowa) (Start / Low) Not a lot about the school here, mostly a few sporting events and policies. Not at all of global interest and completely unreferenced. Adam McCormick 06:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Royal High School (Edinburgh) (Start / High) Reassessed to high importance based on age - 1128. Article needs referencing to make a B and more topics. Missing alumni listVictuallers 14:35, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Embley Park (Stub / Low) Needs significant expansion, article currently only contains very basic information about the school. An infobox would also be a good addition. Camaron1 | Chris 15:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Farleigh School (Stub / Low) Article needs an infobox, more references and more details about the school, such as its policies. Camaron1 | Chris 15:23, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Four Marks C.E. Primary School (Start / Low) A good "Start" article with some useful encyclopedic information. To improve some sections need to be expanded on and should not just be lists, and more topics need to be covered such as school history. An infobox, some pictures and more references would also improve the article. Camaron1 | Chris 15:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Frogmore Community College (Stub / Low) This article is very rarely edited and needs much more longterm attention. Much expansion is needed so more topics, apart from the schools location, are covered. Camaron1 | Chris 15:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • The Preuss School UCSD (B / Low) I would say this article is very close to, if not already B class, it is reasonably well referenced and has no clear weaknesses. It would probably need expansion of some topics to reach GA or higher however. Camaron1 | Chris 14:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
    • This article has been significantly improved, and seems well referenced and informative. Could still be expanded. Adam McCormick 18:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • George Walton Comprehensive High School (B / Mid) A strong article with plenty of topics covered with some pictures and a infobox. To improve this article needs cite more of its references and resources and expand some topics further, such as traditions, history and perhaps controversies. Camaron1 | Chris 09:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Academy of Contemporary Music (Start / Low) A growing article which gives a variety of encyclopedic information. To improve all references need to be cited, an infobox needs to be created, and problems with encyclopedic wording needs to be resolved. Camaron1 | Chris 13:10, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
  • The College of Law (Stub / Mid) This articles needs to be expanded so it is fully referenced and covers more topics such as the layout of the campuses, history, and what the college has to offer in terms of courses. The picture should also be integrated into an infobox. Camaron1 | Chris 13:18, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Guildford School of Acting (Stub / Low) This article gives some useful encyclopedic information. It now needs to be better structured and reorganised to look less like an essay. An infobox, more references and some pictures would also help. Camaron1 | Chris 13:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Hampton School (Start / High) Its a nice looking page for a 16th century school. The history is very brief and covers 400 plus years very quickly. The alumni list is impressive, but some of the blue links should be red as they lead to someone else with the same name. Pictures are always a good addition. With referencess and some tidying then a B is easy and I would estimate that there should be much more to tell. I have made it High as several of the alumni would be known internationally e.g. Brian May Victuallers 11:06, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
