Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam/LinkSearch/Militaryavenue.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Can someone please explain to me why it is wrong to have links to our site in areas that make sense? Can I tell who is doing this and if they work for a competing site? It just seems odd that our site is a valid site as seen on defenslink.mil. Please remove this from the spam list. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.205.121.151 (talk)
- The addition of Militaryavenue.com links fell foul of several of our guidelines
- Wikipedia is not a portal. In general external links should add encyclopedic information, which this website does not.
- Addition of links to sites that you are connected with is not appropriate - such sites should be listed on the article's talk page with a request that other, independent editors review it and add it if they agree it is appropriate.
- Mass addition of sites that have not been agreed to by the community is generally seen as spamming, especially when done by an editor who has no history of adding content to articles. The fact that a site is a good website doesn't mean it can't be spammed - any addition of links to promote a site fits our definition of spamming.
- This is all based on the idea that we are trying to build a neutral GFDL encyclopedia. External links do little towards that goal and favoring one resource over another without consideration (especially by someone with an inherent conflict of interest) does not help us be neutral. We appreciate efforts to increase the content on Wikipedia and would welcome your participation in improving our articles. See the welcome page for more on how to contribute to the project.
