I've been adding short summaries to the entries in the list of English words of Japanese origin: could someone please have a look at that article and check that what I have added makes sense (I don't speak Japanese, and have only had the linked articles and occasional Google searches to go on). -- Anon.
A sugggestion: Over at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Naming order there is a vote on possible changes for what I thought was already a pretty good Wikipedia standard -- "use the form of a person's name that is most widely known and used by English speakers". Unfortunately there have been a few Eurocentric individuals who have suggested that EVERY name be in Given Name-Surname order. I would like to see a few more votes for some common sense on this subpage. gK 07:37, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Requested move: Seppuku → Hara-kiri
There has been a request by User:Hottentot to move the Seppuku article to Hara-kiri (see Wikipedia:Requested moves#30 July 2005). I oppose this move. Even though a quick Google test shows that hara-kiri (plus harakiri) are more common than seppuku, as the article says, hara-kiri is considered "a colloquial and somewhat vulgar term". Thus seppuku is certainly the more appropriate title for an encyclopedia article. BlankVerse ∅ 11:40, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
