Zakir Naik/New Version
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zakir Abdul Karim Naik (born October 18, 1965) is an Indian public speaker, debater and writer on the subject of Islam and comparative religion. Naik attempts to clear what he believes are misconceptions about Islam using the Qur'an, Hadith and other religious scriptures, while also spreading Dawah (Islamic proselytism).[citation needed]
Thomas Blom Hansen, a sociologist at the University of Edinburgh, has written that Naik's rhetoric and style made him quite popular in Mumbai. According to Hansen, Naik's thesis of "following pure Islam" through "Tarbiyah" and his attacks on "Western society vis-a-vis Islam" are similar to the recruitment methods of the Islamic Fundamentalist group Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)[1]
