Fablehaven
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fablehaven is a children's book written by Brandon Mull. Its name most assuredly comes from the Fable Haven Fantasy Preserve which it depicts within its pages. The Fantasy Preserve acts much like a nature preserve protecting the creatures of myth and legend from extinction in the ever more human populated world. It is a sanctuary protected by a contract of rules which each creature inside must abide to. The most common rules mainly focus around "the law of the harvest" and the law of retribution. The book itself chooses to display the second, as the characters within can often be found agitating the creatures within, thus allowing retribution to occur against them. If they physically harm a creature, the creature may physically retaliate. If they use magic, magic may be used against them.
Fablehaven, the first volume in what is most likely to be a very successful fantasy series, focuses on a young girl named Kendra, her adventurous yet mischievous little brother, her loving Grandfather, an aged mortal nymph and many other colorful characters as they learn the lessons of following rules and the necessary consequences that follow when they do not.
According to the official webpage, a second book is coming out on May 11. The movie is progressing with a studio wanting to the rights of it.
