Fairplain, Michigan

Fairplain is an unincorporated area located south of Benton Harbor, Michigan. Fairplain is partly located in Benton Township and partly in St. Joseph Township. Fairplain was primarily an agricultural area until approximately the 1940's-1950's when large tracts of homes were built. Fairplain is a primarily residential area with some commercial activity on Napier Avenue.
Until the mid-1960's, Fairplain had its own school district with a Junior High School and four elementary schools which were called Fairplain West, Fairplain East, Fairplain Northwest, and Fairplain Northeast. The elementary schools divided Fairplain into four sections with the cross roads of Napier Ave.(East/West) and Colfax (North/South).
Fairplain has various houses of worship including Catholic, Protestant, Morman, and Jewish.
