Fallen One is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Universe. He was a Herald of Galactus whose tenure predates that of the Silver Surfer — long thought to have been the first herald. He now serves as the "Herald" of Thanos.

[edit] Character history
The Fallen One's original state is unknown. Eons ago, Galactus empowered the Fallen One in his first attempt at creating a Herald. Unlike the other later Heralds, the Fallen One was empowered by dark energy instead of the Power Cosmic. Post-empowerment, he appears to be of a humanoid race and of similar proportions to the Silver Surfer in stature, with skin colored black or darkest blue, and a mane of hair to match.
Eventually Galactus became tired of the Fallen One's insanity and cruelty and imprisoned him. The Fallen One eventually escaped this prison and immediately attacked Galactus, who defeated his ex-herald and bound him again. Due to the endless source of energy provided him by Galactus, the Fallen One was doomed to eventually escape his prison and in anger, seek revenge again. After countless defeats, the Fallen One was defeated by Star-Lord Peter Quill at a great cost of life. He was then imprisoned in the Kyln, a super prison at the edge of the Marvel universe, a place known as The Crunch.
When Thanos warred with the Maker at the Kyln, the destruction freed the Fallen One, who set out again to attack Galactus. Thanos then defeated the Fallen One, hit him with some sort of a cosmic lobotomy and made him his Herald.
In Annihilation: Silver Surfer #3, the Fallen One was defeated and captured by Tenebrous and Aegis. In Annihilation: Silver Surfer #4, Thanos arrived to reclaim his errant Herald and was presented with the "withered husk" of the Fallen One by Tenebrous and Aegis.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
Fallen One possesses cosmic powers diverse from those of a herald of Galactus; unlike Galactus later heralds Fallen One's inexhaustible power source is black matter, the "binding halo by which galaxies are made solvent". The Fallen One manipulates this infinite source of cosmic energy for application such as incalculable strength and durability augmentation. He can navigate space, hyperspace and dimensional barriers, and can fly at near-limitless speeds, entering hyperspace when he exceeds light speed.
The Fallen One does not require food, drink, air or sleep, sustained entirely by converting matter into energy. He is immune to temperature extremes and most radiation, and can survive in vacuum environments such as outer space and hyperspace. He can analyze and manipulate matter and energy, and restructure or animate matter at will, even transmuting elements. He can heal living beings (though he cannot raise the dead), and like Galactus later Heralds is capable of revitalizing or evolving organic life on a planet wide scale. He can alter the size of himself or of other matter, cast illusions, fire energy blasts, form and manipulate energy constructs, manipulate gravity, absorb and discharge most forms of energy, and phase through solid matter. His senses enable him to detect objects and energies light years away, and to perceive matter and energy in subatomic detail; he can even see through time, and with concentration can achieve limited perception of past and future events in his general vicinity. Also, like a herald of Galactus, The Fallen One has limited telepathic abilities.
