Falling Forward (Canada) is an alternative rock band made up of Danny McKenzie and Tim Riedel, both former members of the famed Canadian indie band Sylmarillion.
Formed in early 2006, the band is slated to release it's debut album in 2007 on THE SYL RECORDS label based out of Vancouver Canada. Prior to the album's release, Falling Forward's recordings have gained much attention.
"The Day" and "Kings" have already been circulated by mp3 file sharing programs and popular networking website "MySpace". Savvy DJ's began airing early Falling Forward songs by the end of 2006 and the band became of favourite on Satellite Radio, Internet Radio and Podcasts.
In November of 2006, director Nicholas Friesen's feature Film "Random Musings of a Girl Named Daphna" prominently featured "Broken Mouths" and "Eyes So Black" by the band.
While all musical parts on Falling Forward recordings are performed entirely by Riedel and McKenzie, the band features a multitude of guest musicians for live performances.
Falling Forward (United States) was one of the forerunners in the mid-nineties development of post-hardcore, or emo. However, unlike the emo music of today, Falling Forward took the elements of the early pioneers such as Rites of Spring, and expanded on them with their own ideas, resulting in something that is at times punk, at times reminiscent of hardcore, and at times even sounds proto-Elliott. What we have here is the soft/loud juxtapose, the thrashy, powerful, yet melodic guitar playing, and the gut wrenching honesty sung in both quiet whispers and aggravated screaming.
