[edit] sub-categories
In an effort to cut down on the large number of articles on writers that appear in a long list of categories, can we break this one down into sub-categories?
I first thought maybe Category:Christian fantasy writers, but Category:Christian writers is currently a lot smaller than this one and the overlap, while very interesting, would be small (largely because a lot of articles that could be in that category aren't - but without access to my whole library, I wouldn't want to go through and sort them out).
So what about breaking this up a bit by nationality? Category:British fantasy writers and Category:American fantasy writers for a start?
That way, instead of, say, Lloyd Alexander being in Category:Fantasy writers and Category:American writers, we could put him in one sub-category of both.
- To interject a comment here, this would then make it enormously more difficut to extract a full list of American Writers using the categorisation system, which is after all the intent. --Phil | Talk 10:10, Sep 24, 2004 (UTC)
Category:Science fiction writers (which is even more enormous than this category) could also use some breaking up.
- Doesn't matter, the system can cope (and was indeed built to) --Phil | Talk 10:10, Sep 24, 2004 (UTC)
Of course, then it would be a little bit more wordy to list writers of both science fiction and fantasy. Are there enough authors in both categories to merit a sub-category?

- This is how the categorisation system works: you include an article in low-level categories, and if more than one suits, use them all. That way it will be possible in future releases of the software to use the categories in a meaningful way. The idea is to construct (relatively) tightly-defined categories which can then be combined at a higher level in the hierarchy. HTH HAND --Phil | Talk 10:10, Sep 24, 2004 (UTC)

- I really don't see that this category is too large--not by a long stretch. Go to any large bookstore and the section on Fantasy (or most other popular genres) will have books by at least this many authors in alpha sort. I don't see much point to subcategorizing by nationality. If there were some specific subgenres, like Christian Fanatasy writers, that might be worthwhile. But purely in terms of the present category, I don't see that there is a problem that needs to be fixed. older≠wiser 12:27, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Sarah Micklem
Is there a reason Sarah Micklem is not filed under 'M'? MrHen 18:28, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
