An independence referendum was held in the Faroe Islands on 14 September 1946. The result was 48.7% to 47% in favour. They declared independence on 18 September 1946; however, this declaration was annulled by Denmark on 20 September 1946. As a reaction to the growing self-government and independence movements, Denmark finally granted the Faroe Islands home-rule on 30 March 1948.[1]
