FC MoCA Manchester
FC MoCA is due to open in Manchester in England in early 2007. With its 25,000 square feet, FC MoCA will be one of the largest private museums in Great Britain and among the most substantial international contemporary art institutions in the country. Retail entrepreneur Frank Cohen is founding the museum after several decades of building one of the most expansive and significant contemporary art collections in the world. FC MoCA will operate to educate and present challenging contemporary art from around the world and is dedicated to building a collection that reflects the scope and diversity of the art of our time.
FC MoCA aims to present and interpret contemporary art in innovative and challenging ways that increase the understanding and enjoyment of all our visitors including a new and broader public. In an age where attention span is at a premium, identifying projects that within them embody principled, distinctive, fresh ideas that can be communicated ironically is the challenge of any new development.
FC MoCA will be bringing the most important and challenging national and international contemporary art, with a focus on art from the past 25 years, to the city of Manchester. The mission is to be an innovative and compelling centre of contemporary art where the public can directly experience the work and ideas of contemporary artists, and understand the historical, social and cultural context of the art of our time. The museum will boldly interweave exhibitions, performances, collections and educational programmes to excite, challenge and illuminate visitors and to provide insight into the creative process. FC MoCA aspires to engage a broad and diverse audience, create a sense of contemplation, stimulation and discussion about contemporary art and culture. FC MoCA will be one of Manchester’s major museum buildings and one of the nation’s largest facilities devoted to the art of our time. The museum will offer exhibitions of the most thought-provoking art created since 1945 and will document contemporary visual culture through painting, sculpture, photography, video and film, and performances.
