Fellow of the Royal Society

Fellow of the Royal Society – an honour accorded to distinguished scientists and a category of membership of the Royal Society whose full name is the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge.
Fellows are entitled to put the letters FRS after their name. Up to 44 new fellows are elected each year by ballot of the existing fellows of the Society.
Candidates must be nationals or residents of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland or Commonwealth countries. The Society's statutes state that candidates for election must have made "a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science and medical science".
