[edit] Club career
Born in San Isidro, Buenos Aires Province, Cáceres began playing professional football at Argentinos Juniors and soon earned himself a transfer to River Plate where he won his first title the Apertura 1991.
Cáceres then moved to Spain to play for Real Zaragoza, where he won the Copa del Rey in 1994 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1995.
He returned to Argentina for a brief spell at Boca Juniors before moving again to Spain in late 1996 to play for Valencia, where he stayed until the end of the 1997-98 season.[1] From 1998 to 2004, he played for Celta Vigo, the club at which he would have the longest tenure. In six seasons with the club, he played 218 matches in all competitions, scoring five goals.[2] He then had a short spell at second division club Córdoba CF.
In 2004, Cáceres returned to Argentina once again to play for Independiente, joining a select group of players that have played for each of the clubs River Plate, Boca Juniors, and Independiente. In 2006, he rejoined Argentinos Juniors, the club where he began his career 20 years earlier.

Cáceres won the South American Under-17 championship in 1987, and at the full international level, he earned 31 caps for the Argentine national team.[2] He was part of the squad that won the 1993 Copa América and of the one that participated at the 1994 World Cup.
