Filippi's Pizza Grotto

Filippi's Pizza Grotto is a chain of casual dining restaurants in San Diego, California, specializing in pizza. Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Stefani emigrated from Italy to the United States in 1922, with Vincent coming from Italy and Madeleine coming from France. In 1950, they moved to San Diego where they initially opened a deli grocery store on India Street, in the "Little Italy" area of downtown San Diego. They added a pizza restaurant to the original deli, which launched a very popular line of pizza restaurants across the County of San Diego.
Today this line of "Pizza Grottos" is owned and operated by the greater family of the DePhillippis'. The original pizza grotto operates at the rear of a very charming deli, giving a lovely old world charm to the founding restaurant in this chain.
