Talk:FIPS state code
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have a question: Why are there no State FIPS codes for 03, 07, 14, 43, and 52? Why are these codes skipped?
Good question, I'll answer it in the article, as it seems relevant. --Sturmde 7 July 2005 18:03 (UTC)

[edit] FIPS 58, 59 and 61
It appears they have another use. If you look at the public school K-12 database, the local education agency ID is a combination of several FIPS ID's, among them "state" except that there are DOZENS of schools in states 58, 59 and 61 whose physical location are either within one of the 50 states or on foreign US DoD bases. #58 appears to be split between AE and AP (about 2:1), while #59 is - literally - all over the map (22 states, mostly in NM, ND, and SD). #61 has 7 states, PR, and AP.
I have no idea what I should assign the districts to since they cover multiple places. I'm sure they're DoD related.

[edit] Change HA (Hawaii abbreviation) to HI
Hello,
I believe the correct abbreviation for Hawaii is 'HI'. It's listed in the article as 'HA'.
I'm new at this so I'm not sure how to make edits. Sorry to pass the buck.
Cheers, Derald
[edit] Templates Removed?
The page looks like a mess of red to me, referring to templates/pages that don't exist. Has something happened recently? Hichris 18:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmm.. Looks like the templates are still there. But only the first 20 or so seem to work, the others all show up in red. Hichris 19:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Something is off in the first couple of lines
“Used in this encyclopedia?” What the heck does that mean? Looks like a passage plagiarized from elsewhere. --24.239.145.243 11:49, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
