From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Firdous Bamji (born May 3, 1966 in Bombay, India) is an actor who has played leading roles in world and American premieres of plays by such noted playwrights as Tony Kushner, Eric Bogosian and Tom Stoppard. He has also appeared in a number of television shows, such as Law & Order, and several successful movies, such as The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Analyze That.
In 2006 he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award as Best Supporting Actor for his work in the film The War Within. Bamji lost the award to eventual Oscar nominee Matt Dillon, who played the role of a police officer in the movie Crash. Many observers felt while Dillon was outstanding in Crash, Bamji was even better and would have won the coveted and respected award had The War Within been better promoted and shown on more screens.
Bamji is considered one of the best actors of his generation, having demonstrated versatility and the ability to command attention from audiences. His performances at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C., The Lincoln Center in New York City and the Trustus Theater in Columbia, South Carolina are legendary to those fortunate enough to have seen them.
Bamji was born in Bombay and raised in Bahrain, India (Kodaikanal), and South Carolina. He now lives in New York City.
