First Book

Founded in 1992 by Kyle Zimmer, First Book is an international non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. The mission of First Book is to distribute new books to children from "low-income" families through community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programs.
First Book has distributed more than 46 million new books, primarily in the United States. It also maintains a legal presence in Canada.

- First Book distributes new books and educational materials donated by publishers through the First Book National Book Bank.
- First Book sells new books through the First Book Marketplace.
- After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, First Book launched Book Relief to provide 5 million new books to help rebuild the coast.
