[edit] History and growth
Founded in Boston in 1878, Fish & Richardson's history includes representing clients such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and the Wright brothers. The firm's list of firsts includes the first patent granted on a life form: the Oncomouse.
Beginning in the 1980s, F&R began expansion into the practice areas of corporate law, regulatory law, securities law, and general litigation, emerging as a general practice firm. Nevertheless, intellectual property remains an important practice area of the firm, and in September 2006, F&R was proclaimed to have the largest IP practice in the world, [1] including a patent litigation group that handles more cases than any other firm before the courts [2] as well as the International Trade Commission. [3]
[edit] Recognition
For 2007, F&R was ranked #17 in the "Best 20 Law Firms to Work For" and #1 in "Best in Practice: Intellectual Property" by Vault. [4]
