Flag of Adygea

Flag of Adygea consists of a green cloth with twelve stars and three arrows The green colour symbolises Islam The twelve stars is a token of the twelve adygar tribes which joined forces to fight for independence from Russia. The top nine stars which stand in an arc stand for the nine "aristocratic" tribes, and the three horizontal stars stand for the three "democratic" tribes. The arrows symbolizes their unity and courage. The flag was originally drawn in 1830 by the British delegate David Urquhart. After the collapse of the Soviet union the flag was again adopted for the new republic on March 24, 1992.
