FM104 PhoneShow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FM104 Phone Show is presented by Adrian Kennedy and is the most listened to late night talk show in Ireland. The FM104 Phone Show was originally hosted by Chris Barry in early to mid-1990s. The show airs from 9.30PM-1.00AM from Monday to Thursday and again on Friday from 10.00PM-12.00AM. It is famous for its humour and for bringing up controversial topics which many would not dare to discuss live on air.

[edit] Presenters

Adrian Kennedy

Kennedy took over the reigns of the show in 1996 and since then the show's ratings have rocketed, increasing every year. He is famed for his no nonsense approach to the show and has never been afraid to speak his mind to callers or to bring up controvesial topics.

Jeremy Dixon

Dixon is the shows producer and joins Adrian in the studio for 'Get It Off Your Chest'. He is also known to call female callers ``DIRTY JEZEBELS` He is famed for his sense of humour and his jokes, which he often re-uses over and over.Examples include:

  • A three legged dog walks into a bar and says- Who shot my paw?
  • A man walks into a bar with a piece of tarmac under his arm and says to the barman: Give me a pint and one for the road.

[edit] Features

  • Topics

Each night between 9.30PM and 1.00AM topics are discussed live on air. the topics are usually requested by the listeners who are invited to send in suggestions by means of e-mail or 24-hour hotline. These topics can range from the most controversial, to humorous, to times when list are made on air such as 'Things that make Dublin ,Dublin'. Regular callers include Joan and Frank.

  • Get It Off your Chest

The first hour and fifteen minutes is taken up with 'Get it off your chest', a clear favourite with listeners, where the they have the opportunity to ring in and talk about whatever they like. For this part of the show Adrian is joined by the shows producer, Jeremy Dickson. 'Get it off your chest' also takes place for the last half hour of the show from Monday to Thursday. Incidents of note include the time that Adrian and Jeremy took it upon themselves to call random phoneboxes around the world and talk to whoever answered. Through this they became friend with Abram, an American who spent a lot of time in his local bar. the friendship was eventually ended one night when Abram's wife answered and hurled abuse down the phone. regular callers include Snowflake, a fan of Babyshambles, and who attends almost all their shows.

  • Fastest Texter

Faster Texter takes place before each ad break during get it off your chest and again at the very end of the show. Originally, it involved Jeremy reading out a random headline from that days paper and the first listener to text in the headline was the winner. Starting in late 2006, however, there is a "theme of the week," for example: "Something you're likely to hear a posh Southsider say," or "Titles of country/Western songs." The prize for winning? Your name on the "Wall of Fame", an internet page on FM104.ie.

  • Whats in Kennedy's Head?

This is a contest which takes place twice each night from Monday to Thursday. Contestants have to try to guess what Adrian is thinking off by asking him questions to which he can only answer yes or no. Prize money increases by €10 each time it is not won. The largest amount ever won was €440, won at 22:45 on the 30th November 2006, by a female listener who guessed the correct answer: a pixel.

  • Quick or Thick

Quick or thick is a weekly quiz which takes place at approximately 11PM each Friday night. Contestants have the opportunity to pass on one question but answer another wrong and they are proclaimed to be thick. The contestant who answers the most questions correctly wins.

  • Psychic

For the last 30-40 minutes of the Friday night show, Adrian is joined in studio by resident psychic Louise Kings who answers listeners' questions live on air.

  • The Bus Game

Invented impromptu by Jeremy during a stage he went through where he developed a great interest in buses, in particular Dublin Buses. Much to the annoyance of Adrian, Jeremy would randomly play a short sound clip of a bus driving around Dublin, while he would call out the route of a Dublin bus. Listeners would text in what number bus they thought it was. There is no prize for the bus game.

  • Santa!

On the very last show before Christmas every year, Adrian is joined by Santa Clause, who talks to children who ring up and promises to deliver them what they want for Christmas. On Friday 22nd December, Jeremy joined Santa in his sleigh as he flew in from the North Pole. He flew over Edinburgh and Glasgow, before coming in over Belfast and down to Dublin, where they proceeded to fly through the newly-opened Dublin Port Tunnel, where the connection to the sleigh was interrupted until they emerged at the other end. They then parked the sleigh in the car park of FM104s HQ at Hume House, Ballsbridge, and then Santa joined Adrian a minute later in the studio, and remained there for the rest of the show.

  • Phoneshow-Retro!

A clip is played of a topic discussed several years ago, listeners then have to text in as to what they think the topic is. the first person who gets it right sometimes gets their name on the wall of fame.
