Photograph of a folded chert outcrop near the lookout in Glen Canyon Park, San Francisco, California. The layers of this particular outcrop, which is near the high point of the park to its north, show remarkable folding that is aligned with the axis of the coastal mountain ranges, and was produced by the forces that lifted them up. In this area, the chert is sometimes called "Franciscan chert" and is rich with fossils of radiolarian creatures (Sloan, 2006). Photograph taken February 4, 2007.
