From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Forest Glade is an urban/suburban community located in the east end of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Forest Glade borders with the town of Tecumseh, Ontario and is nestled around the former town of Riverside, Ontario. It has an estimated population of 25,000 people. Forest Glade features an Optimist Club, a library, twin ice pads (Forest Glade Arena, along with the Forest Glade branch of the Windsor Public Library, are called the Forest Glade Community Centre), 3 public elementary schools( forest glade school, parkview public school, eastwood public school), 2 catholic elementary schools( L.A Demaris and H.J. Lassaline), a french immersion elementary school, a skate park, state of the art baseball diamonds, a high-rise apartment building, a Baptist church, a Roman Catholic church, a Salvation Army church that has both English language and Vietnamese language masses, and a shopping plaza. Although Forest Glade, or simply "The Glade" is a vital part of the City of Windsor, the patriotism displayed by many of its residents would suggest it to be its own autonomous entity.
It is bordered by Lauzon Parkway to the west, Tecumseh Road to the north, E.C. Row Expressway to the south, and Banwell Road/Windsor, Ontario-Tecumseh, Ontario city limits. The community is connected to Sandpoint Beach, the neighbourhoods of Riverside and the Villages of Riverside, and downtown via the Little River Extension and Ganatchio Trail bike paths.
Forest Glade is well known amongst Windsorites for having many winding and confusing roads. It is very easy to get lost in Forest Glade as there are lots of crescents and some of the streets even intersect themselves.
The community is also an example of a planned community, as until the late 1960s, the neighbourhood was mainly farmland, with fewer than a dozen houses in the area. The community was built in stages throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, with most of the available land between the roads mentioned above being taken up. The most recent expansion is in the southwest corner, constructing new houses near Banwell Road.
