Frances Mary Hendry

''Frances Mary Hendry, a well-known author of children's historical fiction, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, 1941.
Educated in Glasgow; Hillhead High School; MA (English, French) Glasgow University; Jordanhill Teacher Training College.
Married, one daughter. Now lives in Nairn.
Taught for 23 years, in Clydebank, Glasgow and Nairn, until nervous breakdown 1983.
Wrote plays and pantomimes for Nairn Drama Club. This led to her entry in a competition called Quest for a Kelpie, run by Canongate Books, who produced the 'Kelpie' children's books, to write a book. Misunderstanding, she called her book Quest for a Kelpie - and won the competition.
16 books published. Most are historical fiction for young adults (i.e. 8 - 98); historically accurate, with imaginary young people inserted into them. Two are fantasy; two are for younger readers. Several have won prizes and awards.
