Francisco De Haro

Francisco De Haro (1792 - Nov. 28, 1849)
Born in Mexico, Don Francisco De Haro served in 1834 as the first Alcalde (Mayor) in the Mexican era of the City of Yerba Buena, later renamed San Francisco, California. De Haro also served as the fifth Alcalde in 1838.
De Haro comissioned the first survey of Yerba Buena by Vioget in 1839. Owner of the Galindo ranch, which included Lake Merced and portions of northern San Mateo County.
Other notable events surrounding his life:
Twin sons; Francisco and Ramon murdered on June 28, 1846 near San Rafael, along with Jose de los Berreyesa. Kit Carson (and potentially other men) shot the 19 year olds and their uncle in cold blood at the direction of John C. Fremont.
