They had an affair behind Abbandando Sr.'s back for years until in 1948 he recieved a phone call from his Manhattan apartment where minutes later outside he was gunned down by unknown assailants. The identities of the shooters were never discovered. [edit] Mob Life
Junior Abbandando left New York to Miami, Florida in the 1970's and was said to have earned his money as a loan shark, drug trafficker and gambler with a reputation of being an enforcer. He did not belong to any of the Five Families and worked on many occasions with the Lucchese crime family, Gambino crime family and Colombo crime family, all of whom had their empires, in or around Miami, Florida. He was a known associate of Gerald Francis Chilli who was later arrested on federal racketeering charges.
[edit] Earning His Nickname
After moving to Miami he angered an unknown capo, or captain in the Colombo crime family stationed in Fort Lauderdale. During the verbal arguement Abbandando Jr. flipped the capo "the bird" or the middle finger. After the arguement the Colombo crime family capo ordered the removal of Abbandando Jr.'s finger with a dull knife. The finger was removed and sent back to Fort Lauderdale preserved in a bottle of vinegar. That is how he earned his nickname.
[edit] Association with the Napolitano Brothers
The Napolitano brothers, consisted of Aniello, also known as "Neil", and Remo, also known as "Rocco". They were two of the four sons of Brooklyn Bonanno crime family capo Dominick Napolitano who was murdered over his involvement in the Donnie Brasco investigation. Like Abbandando Jr., their father was lost at an early age, executed by fellow soldiers. The older of the two brothers, Aniello was a small-time narcotics dealer who was well known by Miami-Dade Police. Aniello saw Abbandando Jr. as a hopeful passport into the floundering Florida La Cosa Nostra organization.
[edit] Aniello Napolitano
Abbandando and Aniello Napolitano were seen in clubs such as "Party Girls" a nude bar on Biscayne Boulevard. After further investigation into Aniello the police became convinced that Neil was dealing steroids. They also suspected him in the murder of two drug trafficking associates, after two men that were arrested with him for dealing narcotics vanished without a trace. A female Miami-Dade police officer was assigned to go undercover, but was apparently seduced by Aniello's charm and was alleged to have exposed her cover by taking him to her office in the police department. Shortly after the failed police investigation, Aniello was dismembered. Parts of his body washed ashore on Miami Beach in September of 1996. According to police officials, they were by no means convinced that Abbandando had either killed Aniello or had ordered the grisly execution, although stating he was capable of both.
[edit] Revenge for Aniello
On December 22, 1995 60-year old Frank Abbandando Jr was run over on Biscayne Boulevard by Rocco Napolitano. Rocco Napolitano, dressed in a black jogging suit with a matching balaclava then exited the car and shot Frank Jr. a number of times in a very horrific and public murder. Rocco Napolitano is alleged to have told police, "I'm the one that shot him" when the police arrested him shortly afterwards, telling them it was revenge for his brother.
