Franklin County High School is a secondary education school located in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Approximately 2300 students attend Franklin County High School, which was founded in 1950. Since its founding, Franklin County High School, commonly known as FCHS, has grown to the largest High School in the state west of Richmond. FCHS is dedicated to producing contributing members of society, and attaining goals through education.

Franklin County High School is located in Rocky Mount, Virginia, which is about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke, 20 miles Northwest of Martinsville and about 45 miles south, southwest of Lynchburg. Rocky Mount is a town of about 6,000 residents, [[2]Town Website], but lies in the much larger governmental district known as the county of Franklin. Franklin County was founded in 1785 from parts of Bedford, Franklin and Henry counties.

Franklin County High School was founded in 1950 from seven smaller schools that were scattered throughout the county. In 1980, the brick building that housed the school was named Ramsey Hall after the late Superintendent, Dr. Harold W. Ramsey. Since then the school has grown to eight classroom buildings, three gyms, two cafeterias, and an Alternative Education Campus. The School has seen nine principals, including current, Mrs. Debora Decker.

Today Franklin County High School is the largest high school in Southwest Virginia. It enrolls 2,291 students and has 185 teachers. The school covers 25 acres and participates in 21 Varsity level sports. The current principal of FCHS is Mrs. Debora Decker, who succeeded Mr. William "Benny" Gibson, in July 2006. The campus of Franklin County High School contains eight classroom buildings, three gymnasiums, two cafeterias and an alternative education building. It also includes a 1600M track, and 6,000 seat football stadium. Franklin County High School has a large and diverse student population, and often hosts foreign exchange students, recently including students from France, Norway and Germany. Besides offering a high quality of education, FCHS offers the chance to meet many new people, take on new challenges and most importantly, explore the possibilites in life.
