Benjamin Franklin High School is a public high school located in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is known for its musical arts program, which contains a beginning strings and woodwinds group, a string ensemble, a Jazz Band, and an Orchestra, all taught, and led by Mr. "Jimmy" Sours. There is also a Choral Program led part time by Mr. Ludtke.
The School contains two statues of Benjamin Franklin, the man who the school is named after. One was hand carved by a local artist in the 1970s, the other made of stone near the Franklin Bowl. The Franklin Bowl was once named the forth best place in Oregon to have a sports game.
Recently there has been some controversy over lanyards that Dr. Hopson requires the students to wear, members of Portland, Oregon's local news came with cameras, whether they made an article about it or not is unknown. Most students stopped wearing aforementioned lanyards two weeks after the policy was instituted.
Franklin's mascot is the Fighting Quakers. The school colors are maroon and gray. For Pep Assemblies each class has a different color, as follows:
Freshman: White, Sophomore: Black, Junior: Gray, Senior: Maroon.
