Franziska Tausig

Franziska Tausig (* 1895; † 1989) was an Austrian author.
She’s the mother of the Austrian actor and director Otto Tausig, who was born on February 13th 1922 in Vienna.
In 1938 Franziska Tausig sent her son to the Great Britain to rescue him from the Nazi terror in Austria.
Franziska Tausig incidentally got two tickets for the “Usaramo”, a ship, that was supposed to be scraped in Japan and transported Jews to Shanghai. So she emigrated to Shanghai with her husband, who died of TBC there shortly after. In 1948, she met her son again in Vienna.
Franziska Tausig’s parents were deported to Theresienstadt and later murdererd in Theresienstadt.
In 1987 she published her memories “Shanghai Passage. Flucht und Exil einer Wienerin." (escape and exile of a Viennese). In this book she describes her desperate trials to escape from Austria in 1938 as the only way to survive.
