"Misty Valley hosts author of 'Running to Paradise'
CHESTER -- On Sunday, at 4 p.m., Frances Winfield Bremer will read from and discuss her book, "Running to Paradise," at Misty Valley Books on the Green. "Running to Paradise" is the true story of a Catholic priest, Father Frank, who is training for the New York City Marathon. The book is based on 10 hours of taped interviews by Frances Bremer who was moved to write about him, fascinated by why Father Frank, a former television sportscaster who looked like Tom Cruise, would dedicate his life to God through the priesthood. His training and participation in the marathon become a metaphor for his priesthood.
Bremer is the co-author of two other books based on in-depth interviews: "Coping With His Success: A Survival Guide for Wives" and "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes." She is currently working on her next book. She has appeared on Donahue, the Charlie Rose Show and numerous radio talk shows. She is a member of the Literary Society of Washington, is a former member of MENSA and founder of the Frances Bremer Prize for American Literature at the American Embassy in The Hague.
"Running to Paradise" is in the process of being made into a motion picture.
She and her husband, Ambassador Paul Bremer, converted to Catholicism in 1994. Proceeds from the sale of her books will benefit St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chester.
Bremer will read from her book and answer questions. A booksigning and reception will be held after the reading at Misty Valley Books.
