Freddy's Frozen Custard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Freddy's Frozen Custard is a small, Wichita, Kansas-based restaurant chain, specializing in lean, seasoned steakburgers, "Chicago-style" hot dogs and frozen custard. Many believe that the name "Freddy" is simply a marketing device, but Freddy is in fact the elderly founder of the chain. On occasion, Freddy visits some of the restaurants. As of April 9, 2006 a new restaurant was opened in the Phoenix, Arizona Area making it the eighth store in the 3 year old system.
Freddy's Frozen Custard has added a store in Edmond, Oklahoma which opened its doors on ]]May 15]], 2006. A restaurant in Moore, Oklahoma opened shortly thereafter on August 18, 2006. A restaurant was also opened recently in Tulsa in the Woodland Hills area. A new restaurant will be opened shortly in South Oklahoma City, bringing the total number of stores to thirteen.
Freddys is now 81 and still comes into Freddys quite often, especially the one on the east side of Wichita where he can visit his grandson Jay Simon.
[edit] Menu
The Freddy's food menu is based mainly off of the "Freddy's Original Steakburger," which is a burger made from a lean steak. Patties are mashed into a flat circle. Varieties include an original, which comes with mustard, onion, and pickle, a "California style" burger, which comes with onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and "Freddy's sauce" (a marketing term for Thousand Island dressing), and a kid burger, which comes with ketchup and pickle.
Another fairly unique aspect of Freddy's is their tosted buns. Freddy's uses a toaster to lightly toast both sides of a bun while buttering the bun crown also.
Freddy's also serves hot dogs, which can be made to order, "Chicago style," which includes relish, mustard, pickle, tomato, onion, celery salt, and sport peppers, or a chili-dog, which comes with chili, cheese, and onions.
