The French (French: les Français, or the French people) are an Indo-European ethnic group who speak a Romance language and live in Western Europe. There is a significantly large French diaspora abroad, notably in former French colonies and the United States.
Although most French people speak the French language as their native tongue, there are large numbers of people of French ancestry outside of Europe who speak other first languages, particularly English in North America (excluding Quebec) and Spanish in South America.
