Fusilier Brigade
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fusilier Brigade was an administrative apparatus for the English infantry regiments designated as fusiliers. Initially, these had been assigned to geographical depots, until the start of the reforms of the army, when it was proposed to form large infantry regiments. As a consequence, the three regiments of fusiliers were brigaded together, with the Fusilier brigade forming on 1st April 1958:
- The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (from Yorkshire and Northumberland Brigade)
- The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) (from Home Counties Brigade)
- The Lancashire Fusiliers (from Lancastrian Brigade)
These were joined by the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in 1962, which was transferred from the Forester Brigade. This regiment was converted to fusiliers in 1963
In April 1968, all four regiments were amalgamated into the single Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. On July 1 the Fusilier Brigade was united with the Home Counties and East Anglian Brigades, to form the Queen's Division.
