La Scottish Football League First Division constitue le deuxième niveau du Championnat d'Écosse de football. Elle regroupe 10 équipes qui s'affrontent quatre fois, soit un total de 36 journées. Le champion est promu en Scottish Premierleague, s'il peut satisfaire aux régles concernant son stade (au moins de 6000 places assises). À l'inverse, les deux derniers du classement sont relégués en Second Division.
Tous les clubs jouent sous statut professionnel, à part Clyde FC et Queen of the South FC.
