Guillaume de Malmesbury (v.1090–v.1143), était un historien anglo-normand.
Moine à l'abbaye de Malmesbury (bénédictins), dans le Wiltshire, en Angleterre, il a un penchant pour l'histoire. Insatisfait par les œuvres qu'il lit, il décide d'en écrire lui-même. Il rédige alors les Gesta regum Angliæ et les Gesta pontificum Anglorum. La première version date de 1125. Il passe ensuite une dizaine d'années à rassembler des documents historiques et juridiques (actuellement conservés à la Bodleian Library) et révise ses deux ouvrages dans les années 1140. Peu de temps avant sa mort, il commence une Historia novella, qui nous est restée à un stade de brouillon.
Les œuvres de Guillaume de Malmesbury sont un témoignage précieux, en particulier sur le règne du roi Étienne d'Angleterre.
