Gabriel Ferrari (born September 1, 1988, in New York, New York) is an American soccer player who plays forward for Sampdoria of Italian Serie A.

[edit] Youth Career

Gabriel started his youth career in the system of MLS club Red Bull New York. Gabriel was the captain of the (then MetroStars) side that captured the U16 North American Championship. ^[1] He verbally committed to play college soccer at the University of Connecticut, but elected to sign a professional contract with Sampdoria instead.

Gabriel signed with Serie A club U.C. Sampdoria on January 17, 2007, in a deal that will keep him in Italy until 2010. Gabriel made his Sampdoria debut on February 1, 2007, in a Coppa Italia match against Inter Milan, coming on as a substitute. As of March 17, he is yet to make his Serie A debut.

Gabriel Ferrari holds both United States and Italian citizenship, which sparked a debate over which senior international team he might attempt to play for. Gabriel quickly dismissed the speculation, saying:

"I'm American. I'm born American, grew up in the US and that is the country I would like to play for if I get the chance." ^[2]

Ferarri scored the game winning goal in his international debut with the US Under-20s in a 2-1 victory over the full Haitian national team on March 28 in Frisco, Texas. Ferrari will compete for a roster spot on the U-20 team with a deep forward pool that includes Josmer Altidore, Johann Smith, Robbie Rogers, Preston Zimmerman, Andre Akpan and Sal Zizzo. ^[3]
