Ganbaron
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1977 Japanese tokusatsu live action tv show featuring Japan's own version of American superhero Superman. Little Superman Ganbaron" was none other than Teru Tendou, a young reporter for the Shonen Times. In times of trouble, he could transform into Ganbaron and save the day. The plot revolved mostly around Teru keeping his identity a secret from his friends. Opening narration: "Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's Ganbaron! Faster than a Shinkansen! Stronger than Kaiju!"
Far more than putting on a cape and boots, Ganbaron was a complete tokusatsu-style transformation of Teru. Of course, no Japanese hero would be complete without a giant robot, and that's where Daibaron ("big baron") came in. He's the first transforming / combining tokusatsu robot ever. Daibaron was formed when Ganbaron alone couldn't do the job.
The show was an excuse for Bullmark to advertise its toys, like the Zincron Deluxe Daibaron, the legendary holy grail of diecast engineering.
