Garrison Forest School ("GFS") is a nationally known college preparatory boarding and day school for girls, with a coed program from ages three through Kindergarten. Garrison Forest School was founded in 1910 and is located on 115 rural acres outside of Baltimore in Owings Mills, Maryland. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.
Total enrollment is 663 girls with the Upper School comprising 231 of those students. The school averages about 60 boarding students in grades 8-12 per year. The student to faculty ratio is 8:1 allowing each student to receive individual attention. Garrison Forest School partners with Johns Hopkins University in offering the Women in Science and Engineering Program. Fourteen high school juniors are chosen each semester from a national pool of applicants. The students live at Garrison Forest School for the semester and work with a professor from Johns Hopkins on their current research.
The school motto is Esse Quam Videri "to be and not to seem" encouraging students to be who they are, not who they think others want them to be.
[edit] Educational Philosophy
Garrison Forest School requires all students to follow a college preparatory track and all students matriculate to college. The school has a tradition of offering strong academics in a single-sex environment. The culmination of a student's education at Garrison is the senior internship required to be completed at the end of the senior year.
