David Garrick as Richard III in Colley Cibber's adaptation of the William Shakespeare play. The king has just awakened from a nightmare. The painting was made by William Hogarth in 1745, based on Garrick's appearance in 1743. The original is oil on canvas and is at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool.
