Gassim Abdelkader

Gassim Abdelkader (December 1, 1963 – ) is a Chadian visual artist, musician,composer, and art song writer living in Norway. He is noted for his sculptures, paintings, and scraper board murals. He is the co-founder of the Norwegian music band [CHAT
In June 2004 Gassim's artwork was presented at the Internasjonalt Kultur Senter og Museum in Oslo, Norway. The exhibition titled "Mixing Life" was a visual experiment merging photography and scraping boards in one long mural.The exhibition discussed the issue of children born to one Norwegian and one immigrant parent,and was held as part of the Norsk Kulturråd-The Art Council Norwaymulti cultural activities.The artist's manifest defines childern born to parents with multi-ethnical background as:
"Mixing life, a statement of liberty and freedom of choice, a glamour of passion and belonging. Mixing life is an art exhibition aiming at announcing the differences, exploring life and accepting it's wonders. In mixing life we visualize a panorama of everyday details, and we declare the following manifest:
-We love life.
-We are beautiful people.
-We respect our universe and belong to it.
-We admire, create and relate to sound, music, motion and art.
-We believe in open perspectives, values, adventures, achievements and peace.
-We are everywhere.
-We are born because of love.
-We shall live with all and for all.
-We are individuals."

In March 2005 Gassim founded the music band CHAT together with Solveig Sorbo. CHAT BAND is a semi-virtual music band that has members from planet Earth, and virtual members from other planets associated with the Solar System.The band first album "Just for the suck of it" was released on September 2005 as a limited edition featuring songs such as "Arabic spots on the nose" , "The bee", "Ping pong" and "Hip hop hope".
CHAT BAND is defined by the founders as a cross-planet, zero gravity band based on the moon. The name CHAT was composed from the organic relationship between Cosmos, "Hyper", Altitude, and "Transformation". The band members are:"Gassim" a composer, lyricist, and lead guitar player from planet Earth. "Sol" a vocalist and lyricist from planet Earth. "Yakaa" a guitar player from planet Mars. "Makaa" a multi-system virtual drummer from planet Neptune. "Yopaa" a keyboard player from the Sun and "Meee" a Bass player and lyricist from planet Venus. The band's new album "The Solar System" was released on Feb.19 2007 in Oslo/Norway and in the USA through CD Baby. The band music is a blend of Sufi chants and space rhythms and melodies.
