Howdy. Sorry, I had to remove the newly added "BIOGRAPHY" so that it can be made more encyclopedic. Here's the text I removed:
BIOGRAPHY
While many in the public eye work hard to avoid labels such as "unpredictable" and "iconoclast", KGO’s Gene Burns embraces them gleefully. Each weeknight Burns holds forth celebrating the richness of the English language, challenging cherished opinions and enthusiastically tilting at windmills. His bosses grumble that both his words and telephone calls are too long! His producer begs him to change topics in the midst of a long raging debate. His detractors label him too opinionated. While listening respectfully, the successful broadcasting veteran begs to differ. "Free speech is an American parlor sport and intellectually based verbal combat is the essence of its exercise", he says. Adding, "citizen activism is at the very heart of democracy".
Burns was on his way to becoming a trial lawyer when fate intervened during a summer break in Hornell the western New York State town in which he was raised. He was serving as the chairman of a Young Citizens Committee embroiled in a battle with the local Chamber of Commerce over the advisability of building a new parking lot. As such he appeared on a local radio station. The station manager liked what he heard and, despite his vehement disagreement on the parking lot issue, offered Burns a job as News Director. The very citizen involvement he urges today, more than forty years ago set him on his career path. Incidentally, the brash Young Citizens Committee prevailed. The parking lot referendum was overwhelmingly defeated, and the rest is history.
Gene Burns has worked at many of the country’s top radio stations including WRKO in Boston, WCAU in Philadelphia and WOR in New York City. From 1991 to 1994 Burns hosted a nationally syndicated talk program on the WOR Radio Network. The program was heard on 162 radio stations around the country. Gene has traveled extensively and broadcast programs from such foreign countries as the Soviet Union, Japan, Israel, Jordan and Canada. In 1968 Burns accepted a special assignment in Vietnam at the height of the war in Southeast Asia. A similar assignment in the Middle East in 1969 began a career long fascination with that complex region. He joined the KGO staff in 1995 and calls the Bay Area’s Number One rated radio station a "performer’s paradise"! He lives in San Francisco’s Richmond District.

- Ah, I now see that it is almost a straight copy from his Bio on KGO's web site. Probably copyrighted. Not a good thing to put here... --NightMonkey 08:01, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
